Another book fair is complete and I am very pleased with our results. We sold over $1,200 more than we did last year.
Since I have the responsibility of teaching my classes, this book fair does not happen without a dedicated book fair chairperson to marshal all the volunteers we need to make it run. This year’s chairman, Jane Vaughn (Maggie Creel’s grandmother/Mrs. Phillips’ class) did an outstanding job. She made sure we had the volunteers we needed to get the job done and she worked in the fair every day and during each special event. Staying calm when there is a line of parents out the door while running a cash register isn’t easy, but Ms. Jane did it! Thanks, Ms. Jane!
Another person that I could not have done without last week is reading interventionist/part-time library assistant, Denise Neuendorf. She came in early every day, set up and served as hostess during our parent breakfast and worked during Open House. Assistants don’t get paid enough to do that, but she did it out of the generosity of her heart. Thanks, Mrs. Denise!
To all the parent volunteers – thank you, thank you, thank you!
We gave 90 books away to students who had not purchased a book from the fair by Friday at lunch time. Forty-nine came out of book fair profit. Forty-one were new paperback books I either had left over from last year or donations given to the library. The students got to choose which they wanted.
I have not made a definite decision about how to spend the profit from the fair at this time. I have one or two ideas I need to discuss with Mrs. Ingram before final plans are made.
Several years ago, PTO asked me to have a book fair open during our Spring Auction. Since we are no longer having that event, I am not sure if there will be a spring fair. I need to speak to the PTO board to see if there is a spring event they are having that they might want to include a book fair. I will contact them and let you know further plans.
Teachers and assistants, thank you for being so kind and supportive during the most hectic week of my school year. I count it a great privilege to work with you.
